Cloud LIS Cost in 2026: What Belongs in Your Quote?
How much does a cloud LIS cost?
Cloud LIS cost depends on the platform, interfaces, modules, and locations included in your configuration. Stratus DX uses a lab-specific monthly quote, with $0 platform setup, $0 training, and unlimited users without per-user license fees. Confirm the written scope and any third-party charges.

There is no single configuration for every lab
A cloud LIS subscription should be evaluated against the laboratory’s test menu, instruments, EMR and billing connections, optional modules, and locations. A price that describes one configuration may not describe another.
Stratus DX provides a lab-specific monthly quote. Earlier versions of this article included illustrative price bands; this guide uses the current quote-based approach instead. For the subscription overview, visit Stratus DX pricing.

What should be included in the written quote?
- Platform: the LIS configuration and the workflows it supports.
- Interfaces: the instrument models, EMR, billing system, and agreed exchange of information.
- Optional modules: the reporting, outreach, verification, or other services the lab chooses.
- Locations: the laboratories, collection sites, and providers included in scope.
- Implementation: directory preparation, training, validation responsibilities, and go-live planning.
- Other vendors: charges or work required by the EMR, analyzer vendor, biller, or another service.
What do the three zeros mean?
Stratus DX’s pricing message includes $0 platform setup, $0 training, and unlimited users without per-user license fees. The lab pays a monthly subscription for the configuration in its quote. Review the written scope rather than treating unlimited user access as a promise that every interface, module, location, or third-party service is included at no additional cost.

Compare total ownership cost consistently
Use the same requirements and comparison period for each vendor. For an on-premise system, consider servers, database software, backups, upgrades, maintenance, and the people responsible for that work. For a hosted system, review subscription scope, connectivity, local interface requirements, and support.
A cloud LIS removes the need for the lab to operate its own LIS server, but staff still need appropriate workstations, internet access, and any required local instrument connections. Do not assume that all local hardware disappears.
What should you send with a quote request?
Provide your lab type, approximate order volume, analyzer models, EMR and billing vendors, number of locations, reporting needs, and other requirements. Identify any existing contract or target timeline that affects the decision.
Use the LIS quote request page for a general laboratory quote. Physician office labs can also use the POL LIS cost page.
Plan for expansion before signing
Ask how a new analyzer, testing area, provider group, or location would be added. A clear explanation of expansion costs helps you compare the system you need today with the one you may need later. No specific savings percentage or return on investment is guaranteed by the hosting model alone.
